Academy Award Nominations 2015
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) have announced the nominations for the 88th Academy Awards, honoring the best in film in 2015.
In the Best Original Score category, the nominees are:
- CARTER BURWELL for Carol
- JÓHANN JÓHANNSSON for Sicario
- ENNIO MORRICONE for The Hateful Eight
- THOMAS NEWMAN for Bridge of Spies
- JOHN WILLIAMS for Star Wars: The Force Awakens
This is the first Oscar nomination Burwell, the second Oscar nomination for Jóhannsson, the 13th Oscar nomination for Newman, and the 50th Oscar nomination for Williams, who previously won in 1971 for Fiddler on the Roof, 1975 for Jaws, 1977 for Star Wars, 1982 for E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, and 1993 for Schindler’s List. Morricone has previously been nominated for five Academy Awards, but has never won a competitive Oscar, although he did win an Honorary Award in 2007 “for his magnificent and multifaceted contributions to the art of film music”.
In the Best Original Song category, the nominees are:

The winners of the 88th Academy Awards will be announced on February 28, 2016.
Academy Award Winners 2014
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) have announced the winners of the 87th Academy Awards, honoring the best in film in 2014.
In the Best Original Score category French composer Alexandre Desplat won the award for his score for directed Wes Anderson’s quirky period comedy The Grand Budapest Hotel. In his acceptance speech, Desplat said:
“Merci. Merci beaucoup. Wes [Anderson], you’re a genius. This is good! You offered me a great view from the Grand Budapest. Thank you. It’s been a beautiful decade for me in Hollywood. I’ve worked with great directors and producers, and I’m very grateful. I need to thank Laura Engel, Mark Graham, Katz, my Greek mother. Solrey [Lemonnier], I met you long ago, for my first session, you played a violin, and you made everything happen for me. So, this is for you. Thank you”
The other nominees were Desplat again for The Imitation Game, Jóhann Jóhannsson for The Theory of Everything, Gary Yershon for Mr. Turner, and Hans Zimmer for Interstellar.
In the Best Original Song category, the winners were John Legend and Lonnie ‘Common’ Lynn for their song “Glory” from critically acclaimed civil rights film Selma.
The other nominees were Gregg Alexander and Danielle Brisebois for “Lost Stars” from Begin Again, Glenn Campbell and Julian Raymond for “I’m Not Gonna Miss You” from Glenn Campbell: I’ll Be Me, Shawn Patterson for “Everything Is Awesome” from The Lego Movie, and Diane Warren for “Grateful” from Beyond the Lights.

Academy Award Winners 2013
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) have announced the winners of the 86th Academy Awards, honoring the best in film in 2013.
In the Best Original Score category British composer Steven Price won the award for his score for the critically acclaimed action/science fiction/drama Gravity. In his acceptance speech, Price said:
“Thank you, thank you Academy, thank you so very much. Alfonso [Cuarón], I share this with you, you inspired every frame of this film, and certainly every note that I ever wrote. Thank you for this remarkable opportunity. To all the musicians and friends who lent their talents to this score, thank you. I get to stand here but this really belongs to all of us. Thank you to all at Warner Brothers, thank you to GSA, everyone on this film for their incredible support. One of the most amazing things about working on this film is that, in telling the story of Ryan Stone, we got to ultimately bring her home and celebrate life, and this is dedicated to the people with whom I share my life – my family. Thank you Mum, Dad, Jenny, sorry I made so much noise when I was growing up. My wife Gemma, our lovely children Amy and Eva, thank you so much, everyone.”
The other nominees were William Butler and Owen Pallett for Her, Alexandre Desplat for Philomena, Thomas Newman for Saving Mr. Banks, and John Williams for The Book Thief.
In the Best Original Song category, the winners were Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez for the massively popular “Let It Go” from the hit Disney animated film Frozen, performed by Idina Menzel.
The other nominees were Paul Hewson (Bono), David Evans (The Edge), Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. for “Ordinary Love” from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom; Karen Orzolek and Spike Jonze for “Moon Song” from Her; and Pharrell Williams for “Happy” from Despicable Me 2.

This is the 6th Oscar nomination for Desplat, the 12th Oscar nomination for Newman, and the 49th Oscar nomination for Williams, who previously won in 1971 for Fiddler on the Roof, 1975 for Jaws, 1977 for Star Wars, 1982 for E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, and 1993 for Schindler’s List.
In the Best Original Song category, the nominees are:

A fifth nomination, “Alone Yet Not Alone” from the film Alone Yet Not Alone by Bruce Broughton and Dennis Spiegel, was issued, but later rescinded when it was discovered that Broughton had breached Academy campaign rules

Academy Award Winners 2012
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) have announced the winners of the 85th Academy Awards, honoring the best in film in 2012.
In the Best Original Score category composer Mychael Danna won the award for his score for Life of Pi. In his acceptance speech, Danna said:
“I share this wondrous award with our visionary captain, Mr. Ang Lee – there he is! We’re playing this game again! – who guided a truly global cast and crew in the telling of this wondrous, beautiful story that transcends culture and race and religion. In the same spirit, musicians from around the globe came together to breathe life into this music, and I hold this award on their behalf. I want to thank my beautiful Fox family, my mom who’s in a balcony here watching, my father who’s also watching, and most of all my wife Apurna and our two beautiful boys who remind me every day why stories like this need to be told. Thank you everyone. Thank you, Academy. Thank you.”
The other nominees were Alexandre Desplat for Argo, Dario Marianelli for Anna Karenina, Thomas Newman for Skyfall, and John Williams for Lincoln.
In the Best Original Song category, the winners were Adele Atkins and Paul Epworth for “Skyfall”, the title song from the James Bond film of the same name.
The other nominees were Mychael Danna and Bombay Jayashri for “Pi’s Lullaby” from Life of Pi; Walter Murphy and Seth MacFarlane for “Everybody Needs A Best Friend” from Ted; Joshua Ralph for “Before My Time” from Chasing Ice; and Claude-Michel Schönberg, Alain Boublil and Herbert Kretzmer for “Suddenly” from Les Misérables.

Academy Award Winners 2011
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) have announced the winners of the 84th Academy Awards, honoring the best in film in 2011.
In the Best Original Score category French composer Ludovic Bource won the award for his score for the silent film The Artist. In his acceptance speech, Bource said:
“Wow. I want to pay, first of all, tribute for the power of the music, and I want to thank you and pay tribute to my co-nominees, Mr. Williams, Mr. Shore and Mr. Iglesias. Hans Zimmer is downstairs, he refused to submit this year, so I thank you charity Hans Zimmer, I don’t know if you can see. Thank you to all the musicians tonight, it’s a wonderful show. Can I have ten second more, Hans? Sorry, I have a little speech. I’d like to thank the Academy for this Oscar. You have given a man a special honor. To all of you, please accept me, because I have got so much love to give. I’ve got so much love to give to you. My wife Sara is there {speaks French}, thank you for all. Thank you Michel [Hazanavicius].”
The other nominees were Alberto Iglesias for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Howard Shore for Hugo, John Williams for The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, and John Williams again for War Horse.
In the Best Original Song category, the winners was New Zealand-born musician Bret McKenzie from the musical comedy group Flight of the Conchords for the song “Man or Muppet” from The Muppets.
The other nominees were Sérgio Mendes, Carlinhos Brown and Siedah Garrett for “Real in Rio” from Rio.

Academy Award Winners 2010
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) have announced the winners of the 83rd Academy Awards, honoring the best in film in 2010.
In the Best Original Score category Trent Reznor, front man of the rock group Nine Inch Nails, and composer Atticus Ross, won the award for their score for the Facebook-themed drama The Social Network. In his acceptance speech, Reznor said:
“Wow. Is this really happening? When we finished work on The Social Network we were very proud of our work and happy to just be involved in this film, and to be standing up here in this company is humbling and flattering beyond words. I’d like to especially thank the Academy for recognizing our work here, and David Fincher… David Fincher, yeah. Thank you so much for the opportunity. I’d also like to thank my wonderful wife Mariqueen, I love you so much”.
Ross continued:
“Time’s nearly out, so I’ve got to improvise a little. David, everyone who brought the film to life, thank you so much. Trent, I think you’re a genius. A great friend, and a genius. My wonderful wife Claudia, and our three children, I love you. Thank you.”
The other nominees were Alexandre Desplat for The King’s Speech, John Powell for How to Train Your Dragon, A.R. Rahman for 127 Hours, and Hans Zimmer for Inception.
In the Best Original Song category, composer/songwriter Randy Newman won his second Oscar for We Belong Together” from Toy Story 3.
The other nominees were Tom Douglas, Troy Verges and Hillary Lindsey for “Coming Home” from Country Strong; Alan Menken and Glenn Slater for “I See The Light” from Tangled; and A.R. Rahman, Dido Armstrong and Rollo Armstrong for “If I Rise” from 127 Hours.

These are the first Oscar nominations Powell, Reznor, and Ross, although Reznor and Ross picked up a Golden Globe nomination for The Social Network earlier in the season. This is the 4th Oscar nomination for Desplat, the 2nd Oscar nomination for Rahman, who won the Award in 2009 for Slumdog Millionaire, and the 9th Oscar nomination for Zimmer, who previously won in 1994 for The Lion King.

Academy Award Nominations 2009
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) have announced the nominations for the 82nd Academy Awards, honoring the best in film in 2009.
In the Best Original Score category, the nominees are:

This is the first Oscar nomination for Sanders. It is the second nomination for Beltrami, the 3rd nomination for Desplat, the 2nd nomination for Giacchino, the 8th nomination for Horner, and the 7th nomination for Zimmer. Horner previously won for Titanic in 1997. Zimmer previously won for The Lion King in 1994.
In the Best Original Song category, the nominees are:

In the Best Original Score category, the nominees are:

- THOMAS NEWMAN for Wall*E

This is the first Oscar nomination for Rahman. It is the 2nd nomination for Desplat, the 4th nomination for Elfman, the 6th nomination for Howard, and the 10th nomination for Newman. None of the nominees have ever won an Academy Award before

These are the first Oscar nominations for Desplat and Navarrete, it is the 3rd nomination for Glass, the 9th nomination for Newman, and the 2nd nomination for Santaolalla. Santaolalla previously won for Brokeback Mountain, last year, in 2005.
In the Best Original Song category, the nominees are:
