BAFTA Nominations 2010

baftaThe British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has announced the nominations for the 64th British Academy Film Awards, honoring the best in film in 2010.

In the Best Original Music category, which is named in memory of the film director Anthony Asquith, the nominees are:

  • ALEXANDRE DESPLAT for The King’s Speech
  • DANNY ELFMAN for Alice in Wonderland
  • JOHN POWELL for How to Train Your Dragon
  • A.R. RAHMAN for 127 Hours
  • HANS ZIMMER for Inception

This is the 5th BAFTA nomination for Desplat, the 2nd BAFTA nomination for Elfman, the 3rd BAFTA nomination for Powell, the 2nd BAFTA nomination for Rahman (who won the award in 2008 for Slumdog Millionaire), and the 5th BAFTA film nomination for Zimmer.

The winners of the 64th BAFTA Awards will be announced on February 13, 2011.

BAFTA Nominations 2009

baftaThe British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has announced the nominations for the 63rd British Academy Film Awards, honoring the best in film in 2009.

In the Best Original Music category, which is named in memory of the film director Anthony Asquith, the nominees are:

  • T-BONE BURNETT and STEPHEN BRUTON for Crazy Heart
  • ALEXANDRE DESPLAT for Fantastic Mr. Fox
  • MICHAEL GIACCHINO for Up
  • JAMES HORNER for Avatar
  • CHAZ JANKEL for Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll

These are the first nominations Bruton, Giacchino, and Jankel. It is the third nomination for Desplat, the fourth nomination for Burnett, and the fourth nomination for Horner.  Burnett previously won for Cold Mountain in 2003.

The winners of the 63rd BAFTA Awards will be announced on February 21, 2010.

baftaThe British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has announced the nominations for the 62nd British Academy Film Awards, honoring the best in film in 2008.

In the Best Original Music category, which is named in memory of the film director Anthony Asquith, the nominees are:

  • BENNY ANDERSSON and BJÖRN ULVAEUS for Mamma Mia!
  • ALEXANDRE DESPLAT for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
  • THOMAS NEWMAN for Wall*E
  • A. R. RAHMAN for Slumdog Millionaire
  • HANS ZIMMER and JAMES NEWTON HOWARD for The Dark Knight

These are the first nominations Andersson, Howard, Rahman, and Ulvaeus. It is the second nomination for Newman, the third nomination for Desplat, and the fourth nomination for Zimmer. Newman previously won for American Beauty in 1999.

The winners of the 62nd BAFTA Awards will be announced on February 8, 2009.

These are the first nominations Greenwood, Gunning, Marianelli, and Streitenfeld. It is the second nomination for Iglesias.

The winners of the 61st BAFTA Awards will be announced on February 10, 2008.

  • HENRY KRIEGER for Dreamgirls
  • JOHN POWELL for Happy Feet
  • GUSTAVO SANTAOLALLA for Babel

These are the first nominations Arnold and Krieger. It is the second nomination for Desplat, the second nomination for Powell, and the third nomination Santaolalla. Santaolalla previously won for The Motorcycle Diaries in 2004

The winners of the 60th BAFTA Awards will be announced on February 11, 2007.

In the Best Original Music category, which is named in memory of the film director Anthony Asquith, the nominees are:

  • T-BONE BURNETT for Walk the Line
  • GEORGE FENTON for Mrs. Henderson Presents
  • ALBERTO IGLESIAS for The Constant Gardener
  • GUSTAVO SANTAOLALLA for Brokeback Mountain
  • JOHN WILLIAMS for Memoirs of a Geisha

This is the first nomination Iglesias. It is the second nomination Santaolalla, the third nomination for Burnett, the sixth nomination for Fenton, and the eleventh nomination for Williams. Santaolalla previously won for The Motorcycle Diaries in 2004. Williams previously won for Jaws and The Towering Inferno in 1975, Star Wars in 1978, The Empire Strikes Back in 1980, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial in 1982, Empire of the Sun in 1988, and Schindler’s List in 1993.

The winners of the 59th BAFTA Awards will be announced on February 19, 2006.

These are the first nominations for Coulais, Kaczmarek, and Santaolalla. It is the third nomination for Armstrong, and the fifth nomination for Shore. Armstrong previously won for William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet in 1997 and Moulin Rouge! in 2001.

The winners of the 58th BAFTA Awards will be announced on February 12, 2005.

These are the first nominations for Ebb, Elfman, Glass, Kander, and Kilar. It is the third nomination for Shore, and the tenth nomination for Williams. Williams previously won for Jaws and The Towering Inferno in 1975, Star Wars in 1978, The Empire Strikes Back in 1980, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial in 1982, Empire of the Sun in 1988, and Schindler’s List in 1993.

These are the first nominations for Pheloung and Warbeck. It is the third nomination for Hirschfelder, and the ninth nomination for Williams. Hirschfelder previously won for Strictly Ballroom in 1992. Williams previously won for Jaws and The Towering Inferno in 1975, Star Wars in 1978, The Empire Strikes Back in 1980, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial in 1982, Empire of the Sun in 1988, and Schindler’s List in 1993.
